By Burcu Karakas and Ceyda CaglayanANTAKYA, Turkey (Reuters) - The Antioch Greek Orthodox Church brought Christians together in Turkey's Antakya for centuries until last year, when an earthquake killed dozens of them and sent hundreds more fleeing. Though it now lies in ruins, many pray it will again bring them back. The deadliest disaster in modern Turkey's history, the quake killed more than 53,000 people in Turkey and nearly 6,000 in Syria, and left millions homeless. 'PLEASE COME BACK'Some 370 Greek Orthodox families were living in Antakya before the 2023 quake but only 20 remain today, he told Reuters. David Cagan, 53, another member of the local Greek Orthodox community, said it was essential to rebuild the churches.

He said he believed Reade was "subjected to a double standard" in the media and that her past life faced undue attention unrelated to her sexual assault claims.

"People for the most part have come to terms with interest rates." No return of 2008, or 3% mortgage rate The biggest reason why housing prices aren't plunging like they did after 2008? At current levels, the Housing Affordability Index says the median buyer can afford the median U.S. home — but barely. Having seen 6 percent interest rates when she bought her first place in 2007, she's not daunted by today's rates, she said. "People have wrapped their heads around where interest rates are, and they have adapted," Fisher said.

Police in Antioch, California arrested a man on Monday who allegedly punched a fast food restaurant employee in the face, causing her to lose an eye, authorities said. "The victim lost her right eye because of the incident," police said. In a statement, the Antioch Police Department expressed their "support and gratitude to the victim for helping a community member in need."
An armed robber fatally shot a Northern California gas station clerk but won't be charged with murder — presumably because the gunman could claim self-defense, police said Wednesday. The DA's office on Thursday did not immediately explain its rationale against charging Jackson with murder. "I totally disagree with this," a tearful Matamoroz told NBC News. 'Why are we bending over backward to not charge an armed robber with the murder of an innocent store clerk who is protecting his premises?' Matamoroz was in the bathroom when Williams told her to stay put.
Homebuilder sentiment in the single-family housing market fell to the lowest level in a decade in November, as builders continue to struggle with higher costs for labor and materials and lower demand from homebuyers. A monthly sentiment index from the National Association of Home Builders dropped 5 points from October to 33. The NAHB said 59% of builders reported using incentives, a significant increase from September to November. In November, 25% of builders reported paying points for buyers, up from 13% in September. In the South, it fell 7 points to 42 and declined 5 points to 29 in the West.

Gavin Newsom (R) tastes wastewater that was treated at the Antioch Water Treatment Plant with Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe (L) on August 11, 2022 in Antioch, California. California regulators this week approved a $140 million desalination plant that could convert up to 5 million gallons of seawater each day into drinking water, as the state grapples with a persistent megadrought and plummeting water supplies. The plant could be functioning within the next five years and supply water for thousands of people in the South Coast Water District. The approval comes as record temperatures and drought conditions have forced states like California to address a future with dwindling water supplies. Water levels at the two largest reservoirs in the country, Lake Mead and Lake Powell, have hit their lowest levels ever recorded.
